Site for New Nuclear Reactor to be Downtown
Pirates Bay, CA (PBC) Officials from Diablo Power and Light announced an agreement with city officials from Pirates Bay to locate a small modular nuclear reactor downtown. This will be the first demonstration of a small modular reactor (SMR) in the United States. Several are currently being constructed in rural China and outer Mongolia. “We’re excited to bring this new technology to Pirates Bay,” said recently appointed CEO and Chairman John Franklin. Franklin was previously head greeter at Walmart in nearby Goleta, CA. “These are completely safe according to our engineers. We haven’t had a failure yet,” he added.
City Officials Excited About the Project
“We were the only town in the whole US to bid for the project,” said Mayor Ernst Rubble. “It shows how forward thinking we are in Pirates Bay. We want to be the first to try out these new nuclear reactors. Diablo Power tells us they haven’t had a melt-down yet. They don’t use water. They use liquid sodium so they’re totally safe. That’s why we’re putting it downtown.” Franklin reported that small modular nuclear reactors are designed not to melt down.

SMR Reactors Don’t Require Monitoring
The SMR to be located in downtown Pirates Bay is a sodium cooled design. This avoids the use of high pressure steam and the reduces the potential for explosions should problems arise according to plant engineers. This design has not been implemented anywhere else in the world. Compared to the old, complicated design at Diablo Canyon, these can be monitored by folks with minimal to no training.
